Full Season Recap
|
The Hot Rods and the Diamond Jaxx played a superb game to open the Pinto League season, and were the only game to be played that day before rain cancelled the rest of the games. The Hot Rods struck first with two runs in the first, but the Diamond Jaxx bounced back with a run in the bottom of the inning. From that point on, great pitching and defense held the score through the fourth inning. Cole M., Jeremy F. and Elijah Y. held the Diamond Jaxx, while David A., Ryan Q., and Cole K. held the Hot Rods. The pitchers were assisted by great defense on both sides, including a running, one-handed catch in centerfield by Joe H. on a big fly ball by Elijah Y. In the bottom of the fifth, the Diamond Jaxx loaded the bases on a HBP to Cor Z. and walks to Brandon O. and Jack Br. Then Cole K. came up and hit a hard grounder up the middle that went all the way to the fence, and everyone came around to score for a grand slam home run. In the top of the sixth, Cole K. shut down the Hot Rods, aided by an unassisted double-play by David A. A great game by both squads featuring spectacular defense, solid pitching and timely hitting. Hopefully, this game points the way to an exciting season of Pinto League ball. |

The Ironbirds and Diamond Jaxx squared off in the pre-opening ceremony game at 8am. The visiting Ironbirds attacked first, parlaying a HBP on Michael B., a single by Ethan T., and a ground out by Benjamin B. into two runs. The Diamond Jaxx came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Jack Br. got on base on an error, Cole K. and David A. singled, Justin O. grounded into a fielder's choice, and Gabriel B. singled. From that point on, the Diamond Jaxx never looked back, scoring four runs in the second, two in the third, and four in the fourth. Highlights included doubles by David A. and Justin O., a single by Ryan Q., and key walks and HBPs by Jordan B., Jack Be., Joe H. and Nina S. In the meantime, David A. settled down on the mound and allowed no further runs through the second and third, recording five strikeouts on the six batters he faced in those two innings. Justin O. then shut down the Ironbirds in the fourth, and Cole K. was flawless on the hill in the fifth and sixth. |

Fresh off the exciting opening ceremonies, the Pinto Mets and Muckdogs took the field for their first games of the season after the previous week's rainouts. The visiting Muckdogs struck first, scoring 4 runs in the top of the first, powered by some walks, as well as hits from Zack A and Jeremy S, who were both making their Pinto debuts. The Muckdogs put Pinto neophyte Jalen G on the mound as their starting pitcher. The Mets loaded up the bases and scored on a bare-handed grab by short-stop Nathan H after a sharp hit by Met Jake E. Nathan H immediately stepped on 2nd for the force out, but not before another Met run scored. Jalen G pitched his way out of the jam by striking out the last batter and stranding two on base. The top of the 2nd saw the Mets blank the Muckdogs, with only Zack A getting a hit and being left on base. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Mets again loaded up the bases and scored some serious runs, this despite starting out the inning with a walk and a rare batter picked off first, then a strikeout. The Mets ended up with 4 runs, though, powered by big hits from Maxwell H, Eli M, Derrick Y, Ryan F and a towering double from Junha L. The hits by Junha L, Derrick Y, Eli M and Ryan F. were all their first Pinto hits. Both teams were held scoreless in the third, behind some serious pitching from the Mets’ Derek Y , and the Muckdogs' Nathan H. Ethan F had a hit for the Muckdogs that inning. The 4th inning saw an explosion from the Muckdogs, as they put up 4 more runs after hits by Zack A, Jalen G, Ethan F, and finally a huge double by Shane L, in his Pinto hitting debut. The Mets responded with 2 in the bottom of the 4th, with hits from Eli M, Derek Y, and Junha L. Muckdog pitcher Nathan H hung in there striking out two more players, before running out of pitches and being replaced by Ethan F, who closed out the inning with a big strikeout. In the top of the 5th, the Muckdogs again exploded for more runs, this time re-taking the lead for good with a 6 run explosion, helped especially by a towering double by Nathan H, and Zack A’s 4th hit of the day, putting him at 4/4 for his first regular season Pinto game. Ethan F returned in the bottom of the 5th to shut the door, striking out three batters and earning the win in his first regular season Pinto pitching experience. The Mets welcomed 3 first-time Pinto pitchers to the game, Ryan F, Zac M and Derrick Y, who pitched a scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings for the Mets. Leadoff batter Maxwell H reached base in each of his 4 plate appearances, and Brady K knocked down two sharply hit grounders to 3rd, saving sure extra base hits. The Mets also welcomed Aiden W (who caught the first two innings) and CJ F to the league. The Muckdogs 9 man squad included only one player – Ethan F – with regular season Pinto experience. Jesse H made his debut to the league with a strong inning of pitching, throwing an incredible 8 balls and 15 strikes in his one inning pitched. Griffin K caught 2 innings behind the plate, and Pinto rookie Diego G reached base safely two times in his first game. Both teams played great. For a opening day Pinto game, it was incredible, with 18 total hits almost evenly distributed between the two teams. |
|
You knew this was going to be a great game in the very first inning when Hot Rods' Cole M's single with a man on base was picked up by the Lookouts' ss Cade A who then relayed the ball to catcher Benjamin K for a bang bang out at the plate. Jeremy F of the Hot Rods pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts, only two walks and one hit. For the Lookouts, Elijah H had a smash triple to right field, Ari R pitched 3 scoreless innings and Jonathan K had 6 strikeouts in two innings of one-run pitching. Pitcher Cole M for the Hot Rods entered the bottom of the 4th inning with the bases loaded and no outs with the score tied 1-1. He struck out the side. In the top of the fifth the Hot Rods scored three with runs scored by Talia G, Jaiden F, and Josh E. Jeremy F had an RBI shot down the third base line which was nicely played by the Lookouts' Benjamin K for a force out, his third put out of the game. Then, in the bottom of the fifth, the Lookouts managed to get the bases loaded with no one out and one run in to narrow the score to 4-2. They had the tying run on second base with the heart of the line up at the plate and no outs. Cole M took a deep breath, settled down, and struck out the side for the win. |
|
It was a good game. We played 5 full innings. This was our first game so we were working out the kinks. |

The Muckdogs and Lookout squared up for a match-up on a beautiful and warm Tuesday evening. The visiting Muckdogs scored 2 in the top of the first, led by Jesse H’s leadoff double to deep center field, his first hit of his Pinto career. Muckdog newcomer Isaac H pitched 2 scoreless innings to start the game. The Muckdogs loaded the bases in the top of the 2nd when Corey M got to the plate with 2 outs and hit a towering drive to deep Right Center for a grand slam home run. In the bottom of the 3rd, Muckdog Pitcher Zack A got the first 2 batters and had Lookout Skyler R on the ropes with a full count when Skyler R belted a pitch in the dirt into center field for a triple, followed quickly by a walk and 3 well-hit doubles to deep outfield by Ari R, Jonathon K and Benjamin G for a 4-run explosion. Muckdog pitcher Corey M came in and pitched 2 scoreless innings to preserve the win for the Muckdogs. He was helped by a rare 4-3 double play when Nathan H fielded a grounder, tagged out the runner from first and threw out the batter at first. The Muckdogs added 3 runs of insurance in the 4th and 1 in the 5th. In the 4th, another towering Corey M fly ball to the outfield with the bases loaded resulted in a triple, but the Lookout defense stiffened and executed a perfect relay, with Ari R tagging Corey M out at the plate while trying to stretch it into a home run. Each team had 4 hits, and both defenses made some great plays. The Lookouts sent 3 hurlers to the mound, with Ari R throwing hard and allowing only one run, and Griffin W giving strong relief of Jonathon K, who threw blistering fast balls past the Muckdog hitters. |

The Mets faced the Diamond Jaxx on a hot St. Patrick’s Day afternoon. The Diamond Jaxx struck first in the first, scoring a run on a walk to Cole K. and a triple by David A. They scored four more in the second on walks to Jack Be., Nina S., and Cor Z., a HBP on Brandon O., a single by Jack Br. and a double by David A. The Diamond Jaxx added one in the third on a walk to Ryan Q., a single by Justin O., and a ground out by Gabriel B. Meanwhile, the Diamond Jaxx' David A. was nearly perfect through three innings, facing just two batters over the minimum, and aided by a great catch in CF by Joe H. Then in the fourth, the Mets unleashed all their pent up offensive power. It started small. With one out, Max H. hit a swinging bunt in front of the plate for a base hit. After a walk to Eli M., Ryan F. doubled and Junha L. homered to complete a four run outburst. But that was all they would get. After Ryan F. blanked the Diamond Jaxx in the bottom of the fourth, “Closer Cole” K. set down the Mets to complete the victory. A tough-fought game on both sides. |
|
The Muckdogs faced the home Diamond Jaxx in a battle of undefeated teams. After a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first, the Diamond Jaxx struck for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Jack Br., Gabriel B. and Justin O. walked, setting the stage for ground-rule double by David A. Ryan Q. then singled two more runs home. The Diamond Jaxx added three runs in the third on walks to Brandon O., Nina S. and Jack Br., a double by Justin O. and a single by David A., and four more in the fourth on walks to Jordan B., Jack Be., Cor Z., Brandon O., Nina S., Jack Br., and Justin O. On the mound, David A. held the Muckdogs scoreless in the first. In the second, Justin O. walked the first batter and hit the second. After that, he retired the next nine batters he faced -- eight on strikeouts. David A. came back to pitch in the fifth, and the Muckdogs were ready. They loaded the bases when Corey M. reached base on an error, Diego G. walked, and Isaac H. reached on catcher's interference. Nathan H. then walked, forcing in a run, and Zack A. hit a bases-clearing triple. In the top of the sixth, David A. hit Shane L. with a pitch, but bounced back to strike out Griffin K. and Jalen G. before running out of pitches. Ryan Q. then came in to strike out Jesse H. to preserve the victory. |
|
It was a beautiful day for baseball as both pitchers came out throwing fiercely. Ryan E of the Bees faced four batters, striking out 2 and the Lookouts' starter struck out batters 1, 5 and 6 to keep the score tie 0-0. The second inning saw two Lookouts hits, but the inning belonged to the Bees as they crashed onto the scoreboard with a triple by Nicholas C clearing the loaded bases and ending the inning on RBIs. With Nicholas C on the mound for the third and fourth, the Lookouts loaded the bases each time. Nicholas C got himself out of both jams by striking out six for a runless outing. The Lookouts allowed Ryan E a double to begin the 3rd, and the Bees eventually scored him, Danny D, and Eli S before the 3rd ended. Although the Lookouts reliever recorded two strikouts, the Bees put four more on the board after a smash by Matthew T. The Lookouts kept swinging for the fences, but were not able to overcome the accurate pitching by Nicholas B in the fifth and Eli S in the sixth. The Lookouts recorded 10 hits and loaded the bases 3 times, but remained shutout from the R column. |
|
The Hot Rods benefited from having two more games under their belt than the Ironbirds. Highlights of the game included a 4 for 4 hitting performance from Jeremy F including a ground rule double to deep left, 3 for 3 plus a walk from Cole M which included 2 triples and 2 for 3 plus a walk from Aiden M. Jeremy F pitched 3 hitless, scoreless innings with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks and Aiden M finished off the game with 2 strong innings. The Hot Rods also had hits from Eli Y, Gabriel M, and Jaiden F. The Ironbirds launched an attack in the last inning with smashes from Ethan T, Nick C and Prince D but the deficit was too large at that point. |
|
The Lookouts defeated the Mets 10-6 in a game featuring two teams still looking to get their first "W" of the season. For those of you who stayed up late last Monday, you would have seen the Mets come roaring back from a 4-run deficit to take a late 11-10 lead, only to have the final score revert back to the prior inning because of time. The Mets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on the first of two huge doubles by Ryan F. (2-2 4 rbi's) in this game. The Lookouts battled back with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning, led by Benjamin G.'s bases loaded double. The Lookouts added four more runs in the bottom of the third, only to have the Mets answer back with four runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning . Hoping to put the game out of reach, the Lookouts plated two more runs in the bottom of the inning to go on top 10-6. However, the Mets rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead only to have the game called because of time. The Lookouts received hits from Skyler R., Jack P., Griffin W. and Henry K. The Mets were helped out by matching doubles by Zac M. and Derek Y. in the fifth inning. The Mets received strong pitching performances by Ryan F. (2 innings) and Derek Y. who entered the game with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and held the Lookouts to only two runs. The Lookouts pitching was led by Jonathan K., Griffin W. (3K's in one inning of work) and southpaw Ari R.(5K's). These teams will meet twice more this season in what will undoubtedly be two more highly competitive affairs. |
|
The Muckdogs and Ironbirds squared off for a nighttime matchup on a beautiful Tuesday evening. Muckdog pitcher Isaac H led off and pitched three sterling innings, facing only 10 batters while striking out 8 and only allowing one baserunner on a HBP. The Muckdogs put up 4 runs in the second, powered by a double by Jesse H and singles by Zack A and Nathan H. In the 3rd, the Muckdogs put up 4 more with singles by Zack A, Shane L, Isaac H, a line drive to the fence by Jalen G and a monster triple by Jesse H (who went 4 for 4!). The Ironbirds exploded for 3 in the 4th, powered by a hard-hit double that almost made it to the fence by Nicholas C and a triple by Ethan T which came only feet from going over the fence for a home run. Shane L made his Pinto pitching debut for the Muckdogs, throwing a lot of strikes, striking out one and getting two nice defensive plays for outs. The Muckdogs responded with one in the bottom half of the 4th on another single by Jesse H. The Muckdogs added 2 more in the bottom of the 5th on singles by Isaac H and Jesse H, and a towering drive by Nathan H that bounced over the fence for a ground-rule double. Muckdog pitcher Ethan F closed out the game for the Muckdogs, and Nicholas C threw major heat in relief for the Ironbirds. Gabriel Y and Daniel H also pitched well for the Ironbirds. |
|
The game started out pretty one-sided. The Jaxx’s pitching ace David A took the mound and faced 10 batters in three innings for a nearly perfect appearance. The Diamond Jaxx offense, however, put some lumber on leather in the first, with a hit by Cole K and a ground rule double by David A. Ben V of the Bees took the mound in the second, was relieved by Ryan E and got out of the inning with the score unchanged. Nicholas C improved on his first inning performance on the mound and got through the third inning also with no change in score. Nicholas C began pitching in the fourth, and was also relieved by Ryan E after facing one batter. Ryan shut down the Jaxx’s offense through the end of the fifth inning. Bee batters buzzed in the fourth, matching the score run-for-run. Cole K pitched well in the fifth for the Diamond Jaxx. With the score tied 4-4, Ben V resumed his position on the mound and threw well. With a little help from his infield, he sent the Boys from Burlington to the bottom of the sixth with a tie score. The game ended with a single pitch, hit sharply down the third base line by Aiden G. Aiden G made it around the bases for an in-the-park homer, and the home crowd went wild. |
|
The Lookouts held on to defeat the Ironbirds 9-5 in the early game on Saturday. The Lookouts squeezed out a run in the first, followed by four in the second and four in the third to take a commanding 9-0 lead. However, with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning, Michael B. laced a double to right center field to pull his team within four runs. Jonathan K. then came in and shut down the rest of the Ironbirds lineup to preserve the victory. For the sixth time this season, the Lookouts made a play at the plate when Jonathan K. fielded a slowly hit ball at first base and quickly threw home to Griffin W. who put a tag on Benjamin B. who was hoping to score from second base. Elijah L. accounted for the lone hit for the Lookouts, who relied on good defense and strong pitching by Ari R. (3K's) and Jonathan K. (5K's). The Ironbirds Daniel H. and Nicholas C. showed that they have good stuff on the mound as well. |
|
The first inning started out strong for the Bees, with SS Ryan E catching the first batter’s fly ball, and then participating in a double play with 1B Ben V to pick off the runner on first and end the inning. Mets P Daniel Y battled through six batters (including Ryan E who hit a long ball to center for a double), before the inning ended scoreless. Both Ethan W and Amanda M got singles in the second to drive in Maxwell H and Junha L, who had earned bases on balls. The Bees answered with one of their own, with Eli S getting all the way around the bases before the inning ended. Two more runs were scored by the Mets in the third. Junha L and Derek Y both singled and Aiden W doubled for a 3-1 lead. Bees had no answer this time, although Ryan E again got aboard with a double. 4th inning: Amanda M got aboard on a double and Derek Y hit a GRD, but Bees outfielder Matthew T caught a fly ball and picked off the runner on third for an unassisted double play. Maxwell H pitched perfectly in the fourth, sending the Bees down 1, 2, 3. The Mets mounted a long top-of-the-fifth, nearly batting around, and scoring one run. This time, the Bees answered on an in-the-park homer by Nicholas B, and long shot to left center by Nicholas C, who drove in Ryan E (who had a triple of his own). Score 5-3 Mets. Closer Ben V came into the sixth, faced 5 batters, and got out of the inning, the score still 5-3. The Bees proved again that they never give up by mounting a patient offensive campaign in the bottom of the sixth to put three more on the board and end the game. |

On a hot Saturday afternoon, the Diamond Jaxx faced the Hot Rods in a heart-stopping thriller. The visiting Diamond Jaxx started things off with 2 runs in the top of the first on walks to Jack Br., Cole K., Justin O., David H. and Gabriel B. The Hot Rods roared back in the bottom of the inning. After Ryan B. walked and Cole M. reached on an error, Eli Y. hit a triple to plate two runs and tie the score. The Diamond Jaxx then struck for four runs in the top of the second. Joe H. walked, Nina S. got her first hit of the year, Jack Br. walked, Cole K. singled, Justin O. reached on an error, and David A. doubled. David A. then held the 'Rods in the bottom of the inning, and Hot Rod pitchers Jeremy F. and Aidan M. held the Diamond Jaxx in the top of the third and fourth. The Hot Rods then scored one run in the bottom of the third when Jeremy F. reached on an error and Cole M. tripled. Cole M. was thrown out at the plate on a beautiful 9-3-2 relay. When the catcher dropped the ball, pitcher Justin O. was backing up and tagged Cole at the plate for the out. In the bottom of the fourth, Eli Y. singled, Aiden M. was hit by a pitch, Gabriel M., Owen L. and Lucas G. walked to score two runs. Cole K. then came into pitch and shut down the 'Rods with the aid of a nice unassisted force out at third by shortstop David A. In the fifth inning, the teams matched each other with 4 runs. For the Diamond Jaxx, Cole K. reached on an error, Justin O. and David A. singled, Gabriel B., Cor Z. and Brandon O. walked, and Jordan B. reached on an error. For the Hot Rods, Talia G. reached on an error, Ryan B. and Jeremy F. walked, and Cole M., Eli Y. and Gabriel M. singled. That left the score 10-9 going into the last inning. Aidan M. blanked the Diamond Jaxx in the top of the inning, aided by two excellent defensive plays by Ryan B. at 2B, catching a line drive off the bat of Jack Be. and racing to second for the unassisted put out on a grounder by Jack Br. In the bottom of the inning, the Hot Rods put two runners on when Owen L. was hit by a pitch, Lucas G. popped out the pitcher and Jaiden F. walked. With one out, the Diamond Jaxx' Cole K. ran out of pitches, and Justin O. came in to strike out two batters to end the game. An awesome game featuring some great hitting and defensive plays. |

The Diamond Jaxx were looking to even the score with the Bees in a rematch of two tough teams, as the Bees had bested the Diamond Jaxx two weeks earlier. The Bees came out swinging in the first. Nick B. reached on an error, and Nick C. singled and went all the way home on a three-base error. The Diamond Jaxx bounced back with four runs in their half of the inning on walks to Gabriel B., Cole K., Justin O., Ryan Q., Jordan B. and Jack Be., and a double by David A. The Diamond Jaxx scored two more in the second and four more in the third. In the second, Joe H. walked, Cole K. and Justin O. reached on errors, David A. reached on a fielder's choice, and Ryan Q. was hit by a pitch. In the third, Jordan B. got a HBP, Cor Z., Brandon O., Joe H. and Gabriel B. walked, and Cole K. singled. Meanwhile, David A. shut down the Bees in the second and third innings. In the fourth, the Bees mounted an attack when Matt T. was hit by a pitch, Nick C. got on board on a fielder's choice, Danny D. walked, and Dylan S. was hit by a pitch. But Diamond Jaxx pitcher Ryan Q. got out of it with only one run allowed, getting some nice defense from Cole K. at first who caught two popups despite looking into the setting sun. The Diamond Jaxx answered with a run of their own when David A. tripled, and Ryan Q., Nina S. and Cor Z. walked. The fifth inning was declared the last inning, and "Closer Cole" K. shut down the Bees with the aid of a nice defensive play at first by Ryan Q. on a hard shot by Eli S. |

The Mets and Ironbirds squared off on Wednesday in a long game that had an exciting finish. Maxwell H. led off the game for the visiting Mets with a rocket ground rule double to LF and then scored the first run of the game on a single by Derek Y. The other 3 runs scored by the Mets that inning came on walks including the first RBIs of the season for Brady K. and CJ F. The Ironbirds struck back immediately with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st, getting their rally started with a catcher interference call and then converting real patience at the plate into 5 BBs/HBs (3 of which were on 2 strike counts). The Mets tacked on 2 runs in the 2nd inning with a combination of walks and a hit by Ryan F. Ironbirds pitcher, Nick C., dug deep and shut down the Mets bases loaded rally with 2 consecutive strikeouts. The Ironbirds followed suit with 1 run off two hits (Prince D. and Ethan T.) and 2 walks, but heads up fielding by the Mets' Ethan W. resulted in a force out at 2B to end the Ironbirds' threat. Each team posted 4 runs in the 3rd inning--the Mets getting theirs off 3 hits (including Derek Y's second RBI single of the game and a 2 out RBI single by Aidan W.) and 4 BB/HBs and the Ironbirds getting theirs from 2 hits (Arrow G. and Prince D.) and 5 BB/HBs. In the 4th Ethan T. struck out 3 Mets to keep the score close. In the bottom of the 4th, with a 10-8 score, the Mets' Ryan F. again took the mound. He struck out the first batter, then Ironbirds Ethan T. belted a double and Daniel H. followed up with a single. Ryan F. then struck out another batter. With 2 outs, Arrow G. stepped to the plate and popped up the pitch but it was dropped and a run scored. The tension was thick with the potential tying and winning runs on base. On the 1-1 pitch Gabriel Y. hit a solid grounder which Mets 1B Derek Y. fielded nicely and stepped on 1B to end the game. The Mets were jubilant! Kudos to debut pitching efforts by the Mets' Brady K. who came in relief in the 2nd inning with 1 out and two runners on base and held the Ironbirds to 1 run and Ethan W. who started the 3rd inning. The Ironbirds are to be commended for scoring every inning of the game and for showing great sportsmanship before, during and after the game. |

This was a very exciting Pinto Baseball game, one that will be remembered for a long time. 8 of the 9 Muckdogs players put the ball in play. 9 of the 12 Hot Rods put the ball in play. There was a bona fide, over-the-fence home run from Muckdog Nathan H, a smash line drive catch by Hot Rod Cole M, a terrific double play from the Hot Rods Ryan B, Aiden M and Eli Y, and a 6-5 score that came down to the final batter in the last inning. The Muckdogs took the lead in the second inning 1-0 on the over-the-fence homer from Nathan H. They scored again in the third when Jesse H hit a double and was driven in by a Jalen G single. Down 3-0, the Hot Rods fought back, scoring 4 in the bottom of the fourth after a smash double by Eli Y and a single by Aiden M. A couple of walks to Gabriel M and Josh F and a line drive, bases clearing hit by Talia G, her second hit of the night. In the top of the fifth, the Muckdogs again took the lead scoring two off a walk to Zack A and a hard single by Isaac H. Jeremy F then made a great play at short to get Jalen G but the runners advanced. A ground out by Ethan F knocked in both runs. In the bottom of the fifth, Josh E led off with a smash double to right but was tagged out by an alert Muckdog shortstop. With the clock approaching 6:45, the Hot Rods scored two more runs on walks and a fielding error off the bat of Owen L. For the Hot Rods, Jeremy F pitched three strong innings giving up 2 runs, walking 2 and striking out 5. For the Muckdogs, Nathan H pitched two shutout innings walking 2 and striking out 5. |

The Muckdogs hosted the Mets in a replay of opening day on an unseasonably cold April morning. The Mets came out of the gate strong, putting up 2 runs on a hit by Maxwell H and Derek Y, as well as a walk from Jake E, and a 2 RBI single by Ethan W. The Muckdogs responded in the bottom of the first with one-on doubles by Jalen G and Ethan F. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Muckdogs loaded the bases and got one run on 2 walks, and a single by Jeremy S and a triple by Jesse H when Ethan F came to plate with the bases loaded and 2 out, only to hit the first pitch over the fence for a grandslam home run. Undaunted, the Mets came back in the top of the 3rd to score 3 on some walks and a hit by Derek Y, before Zack A came in to shut the Mets down. Nathan H hit a triple and scored on an error to lead off the inning, followed by a Jeremy S single and Jesse H double to score one more. At that point it was all defense and pitching, with knockout pitching by Zack A and Nathan H for the Muckdogs, and Ryan F and Maxwell H for the Mets, the only blemishes being a couple of walks, and a hit by Met Ryan F and Muckdog Jeremy S. Of particular note were impressive defensive plays by Maxwell H for the Mets, and Nathan H and Jeremy S (catching his first Pinto fly ball) for the Muckdogs. Ethan F and Jesse H also threw well for the Muckdogs, as did Derek Y and Brady K for the Mets. |

The Diamond Jaxx and Ironbirds engaged in a pitchers' duel for the first four innings. The Ironbirds' Ethan T. and Nick C. were on their game and held the Diamond Jaxx to no runs and no hits through four innings while striking out eleven batters. The Diamond Jaxx' David A. held the Ironbirds scoreless through three, getting some nice defensive help in the first on a 9-3-2 relay from Nina S. to Justin O. to Gabriel B. to stop a run from scoring after Ethan T. reached on an error and Arrow G. doubled, and in the second on a double play when David caught a popup and threw to Ryan Q. to double up the runner who had strayed off first. In the fourth, the Ironbirds broke through for a run when Ethan T. and Prince D. reached on infield singles, Nick C. walked, and Arrow G. grounded into a fielder's choice. The Diamond Jaxx threw home, but the catcher dropped the ball. In the fifth, the Diamond Jaxx finally broke through for four runs on walks to Cor Z. and Nina S., a HBP on Gabriel B., and a triple by Cole K., who came home on a throwing error. In the sixth, the Diamond Jaxx added two insurance runs when Justin O. singled and David A. doubled and scored on a throwing error. "Closer Cole" K. then shut down the Ironbirds in the fifth and sixth for the victory, despite allowing Sopie B.'s first hit of the season. A well-played and tough fought game. |

Saturday's late game ended with the Lookouts and Hot Rods all even at 9 runs a piece. The Lookouts jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one inning. After retiring the Lookouts in order in the top half of the second, Ryan B. led off the second with a walk which was followed by consecutive base hits by Jeremy F. (1B), Cole M. (a two bagger that knocked in a pair) and Eli Y. (1B) to give the Hot Rods a 4-2 lead. The Lookouts answered back with 4 runs in the top half off the third. Jonathan K. led off with a walk, followed by Caden A.'s smash double to center field and a HBP to Henry K. Two batters later Skyler R. hit a bases clearing triple. The Hot Rods were retired in order in the bottom half of third. Leading 6-4, the Lookouts added 3 more runs in the top half of the fourth inning before being shut down for more by Jeremy F. who came into close out the inning with two outs and the bases loaded. The Hot Rods continued to battle back by adding 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to bring themselves within 9-8 going into the last inning. Jeremy F. (2k's and O BB's) stayed in to pitch the fifth inning and retired the "meat" of the Lookouts lineup in order to keep his team just one run back. Jonathan K. came in to close out the game for the Lookouts and promptly struck out the first two batters. However, a walk, HBP and two more walks tied the game up. The Muckdogs and Diamond Jaxx met in a game pitting two strong teams. The Muckdogs, hoping to avenge their earlier defeat to the Diamond Jaxx, held the Jaxx scoreless in the top of the first, despite a hard-hit single by David A, and scored two in the bottom half on a triple by Jeremy S and an error resulting in a run, then a double by Zack A, who scored on a fielder's choice by Griffin K. The Jaxx battled back with a run in the second on 4 walks before Muckdog pitchers Isaac H and Nathan H pitched them out of a jam. Jaxx pitcher David A pitched 2 more scoreless innings. The Jaxx picked up one in the top of the 3rd after a walk and a single by Justin O when David A hit a sharp grounder to Muckdog shortstop Zack A, who barely threw him out, but which scored Jaxx Cole K on the fielder's choice. In the 4th, the Muckdogs got 4 more on a series of walks, followed by a RBI single by Griffin K (his first Pinto hit) and a sharp line drive to left by Isaac Hebert, which scored two more. Muckdogs closer Corey M allowed one in the 5th on hits by Justin O and David A, and the Jaxx put three more balls in play that inning, only to have Nathan H and Corey M catch 2 fly balls and get a put-out at first to end the game. Muckdog Diego G got his first Pinto hit this game in the 3rd, the only blemish on Jaxx pitcher David A's otherwise perfect 2nd and 3rd. Jaxx pitchers Ryan Q and Justin O also threw well from the hill. |

The Ironbirds got their first win of the season in an exciting game with the Bees on Saturday. Ironbird pitchers Nicholas C. and Gabriel Y. were able to keep the Bees’ offense off balance enough to keep the Bees to 3 runs over 4 innings with 10 stike outs and no hits. Meanwhile, the Ironbird’s hitting came alive. Prince D. had a hard-hit double in the 2nd inning followed by hard-hit single by Gabriel Y. in the 3rd inning. The 4th inning opened up with a triple down the right field line by Ethan T. and was capped by a smash ground rule double by Gabriel Y. The Bees attempted to rally in the top of the 5th with a pair of nice doubles by Sean and Ryan for an exciting finish. |

The Lookouts defeated the Mets 12-1 on Saturday behind solid pitching and timely hitting. The Lookouts jumped out to an early lead 4-0 with the help of a 2 r.b.i. double by Jonathan K. in the first. In the top of the third, with the bases loaded, Benjamin G. hit a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence for a grand slam and an 8-0 Lookouts lead. The Mets added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning after a catcher's interefrence call and consecutive singles by Derek Y. and Ryan F. (r.b.i.) The Lookouts added 4 more runs in the top of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Ari. R. pitched 3 innings for the visiting team chalking up 6 K's while providing some nifty glove work on the mound. Jonathan K. contributed 2 1/3 innings of work with 7 K's. Griffin W. came in and recorded the last 2 outs for the Lookouts to end the game. Jacob M. recorded his first hit of the season while Caden A. continued his hot hitting with two more base hits. The Mets were looking to avenge their loss to the Diamond Jaxx, after playing them tough in a close game a couple of weeks earlier. The Mets' Ethan W., making his pitching debut, held the Diamond Jaxx to two runs in the first while striking out two. The Diamond Jaxx then scored one in the third and four in the fourth. Most of the scoring came on bases on balls, aided by a single by Cole K. and two singles by David A. On the mound, David A. held the Mets scoreless through the first three innings. In the fourth, the Mets broke through and scored four runs on several walks and a big triple by Ethan W. The Mets' Derek Y. then held the Diamond Jaxx scoreless in the top of the fifth before the Diamond Jaxx' "Closer Cole" K. came on to shut down the Mets in the bottom of the fifth for the win. Despite being short-handed, the Mets fought hard and never gave up. Gabriel B. of the Diamond Jaxx also made his pitching debut. |

In blustery cold and windy weather, the Ironbirds and Hot Rods battled in a pitching duel that yielded only two hits and 4 runs combined. In fact, the Ironbird's Ty C, Ethan T and Arrow G combined to pitch a no-hitter in a losing effort. Jeremy F for the Hot Rods and Ty C for the Ironbirds both pitched strong, scoreless first and second innings. Then, in the bottom of the third, the Hot Rods scored 3 on walks and a hit batter. In the top of the fourth and final inning, the Ironbirds' Holden D led off with a smash hit double to right field, his first hit of the season even though he has been making good contact with the ball for the past few games. He later scored after a few walks. With the tying run on second and the bases loaded with one out, Jeremy F returned to the mound and got the final two outs on a strikeout and a ground out to the pitcher to close the game. The Hot Rods' Eli Y made a terrific play at third base and Aiden M and Ryan B made a very strong shortstop-to-second force out play as well. |

The second meeting of the Ironbirds and Mets had a lot to live up to because of the nailbiting finish of the first game. This one was a tight, well-played game as evidenced by the 2-0 score going into the bottom of the 5th inning. Nick C. for the Ironbirds and Ryan F. for the Mets each set the tone by throwing shutouts in the first and second innings (and both pitched their way out of a bases-loaded loaded rally). A couple of defensive highlights were Mets' C Jake E. (aka "The General") and 3B Amanda M. teaming up to throw out an Ironbird trying to steal 3rd base in the first inning and Mets' 1B Eli M. catching a difficult foul pop-up. The Mets' Brady K. (aka "The Silent Giant") has settled into his middle relief role, shutting down the 3rd and 4th innings by allowing only one baserunner each inning (one of which was a solid single by Ironbird Arrow G. in the 4th). Ryan F. aided the defensive effort by making an unassisted put out at 1B in the 3rd. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Mets finally got on the board. The General ignited the Mets rally with a lead-off single, stealing a couple of bases and eventually scoring on a sweet hit by Eli M. Heads up defense by the 'Birds resulted in a forceout at 2nd on the play. Amanda M. then ripped a single up the middle to bring Eli home. The 'Birds kept their cool and ended the Mets rally. The Ironbirds' Ethan T. shut the Mets out in the 4th. The 'Birds used that momentum to mount a rally in the top of the 5th but the Mets' Derek Y. responded with some tough pitching. He was aided by a hustle play by Mets CF Amanda M. who cleanly fielded a rip by Ironbirds' Jacob F. and fired a throw to Mets 2B Zac M. to get a force out of a 'Birds runner. In the bottom 5th the Mets rallied for 4 runs, on a few walks, a clutch single by Ryan F., a 2 RBI double by Amanda M. and an infield RBI single by Brady K. The Mets' CJ F. also got his first RBI of the season. In the top of the 6th, after a strikeout and a nice catch on a pop fly by Mets SS Maxwell H., the Mets may have been thinking shutout but the 'Birds were thinking comeback. Nick C. quickly turned a HBP into 2 stolen bases. Then Arrow G. hit a sharp ground ball to Mets SS Maxwell H. who cleanly fielded the ball and made a great throw to 1B whose foot was not touching the base. Nick C. was able to score on the play. Mets' Derek Y. remained focused and stamped out the rally with a strikeout to end the game. |

This week the Muckdogs visited the beehive hoping not to get stung. They came out swinging in the top of the 1st. Isaac H and Corey M got hits, a walk and then a fielder's choice by Jeremy S totaled 3 runs before Bees ace Ryan E shut down any further Muckdog scoring. In the 2nd and 3rd, Ryan E mowed down the next 6 Muckdog batters he saw with 6 consecutive strikeouts. Not to be outdone, Muckdog hurler Isaac H threw a perfect 1st and 2nd with 5 Ks. Muckdog SS Zack A hauled in a screaming line drive by Nick C to save a perfect inning. In the 3rd the Bees picked up a run on a walk and 2 stolen bases by Matthew T, who beat out a throw home on a comebacker to pitcher Corey M. In the 4th, the Muckdogs struck again for 3 on the strength of a walk, a Jeremy M double and a screaming Nathan H triple to the fence, where he managed to get home on a throwing error. The Bees stopped the Muckdog rally with a terrific run down by catcher Danny D and 3B Eli S to tag a runner out as he tried to head home from first after Ethan F's double The Muckdogs showed some defensive prowess in the 5th when Danny D hit a monster down the right field line towards the fence, only to be fielded quickly by Nathan H, who fired it to 2B Ethan F, tagging out the runner out as he tried to stretch his hit into a double. The Bees responded defensively in the 5th when Danny D fielded a sharply hit grounder by Zack A at 3rd and made the long throw to put him out at 1st, but the ironic highlight of the game came with 2 out and Muckdogs on 1st and 3rd when the Bees dug deep and called upon - Their Mascots! A swarm of bees invaded the field, causing its evacuation. When things resumed a few minutes later, Bee pitcher Nick C (who threw 3 strong innings in relief) gave quick thanks to the killer bees and then coolly struck out the last Muckdog batter to escape unscathed. In the 6th the Muckdogs got one more after a single by Corey M and a double by Nathan H, but 3B Dylan S stifled the Muckdogs with a great snag of a Zack A hit and a nice tag of the runner coming from 2nd to end the inning. After 2 1/3 great innings in relief by Corey M, Nathan H entered in the 6th to close the game out for the Muckdogs. |

The Diamond Jaxx and Lookouts met for the first time this season in a game that featured everything -- good hitting, pitching and defense, and a bee-swarm induced game delay. The Lookouts' Ari R. (one run over three innings) and Jonathan K. (6 Ks over 2 1/3 innings) held the Diamond Jaxx to one run through four innings, supported by some outstanding defense. In the first, Kalman W. caught a tough pop-up at 3rd base. In the 2nd, after he had doubled David A. home, the Diamond Jaxx' Ryan Q. was tagged out at third trying to stretch a double into a triple on a great relay from Sam L. in right to Jonathan K. at short to Henry K. covering 3rd. In the 4th, Cole K. was tagged out at second trying to leg out a double on a great throw from Caden A. in center field to Ari R. On offense, the Lookouts broke through for four runs in the fourth on a single by Skyler R., a walk to Ari R., a HBP on Kalman W., and consecutive doubles by Caden A. and Jonathan K., the latter a ground-rule double. In the fifth, the Diamond Jaxx tied the score with three runs on walks to Justin O. and Brandon O., HBPs to Jack Be. and Cor Z., a double by David A. and a triple by Ryan Q. In the sixth, the Diamond Jaxx broke things open with nine runs. Jack Br. hit a hard single to RF, Cole K. doubled and scored on an error, David A. doubled, and there were a number of walks. In the bottom of the sixth, Cole K. shut down the Lookouts for the win, with the help of a great play at third by Jordan B. on a tough grounder by Jonathan K. |

The Hot Rods came to play tonight against an excellent Diamond Jaxx team. The Hot Rods scored first, putting up a run in the first on a triple by Cole M and a single by Eli Y. Jeremy F pitched three terrific innings for the Hot Rods, striking out 7, walking none while allowing two singles and no runs. In the fourth inning, the Hot Rods' Talia G hit a single with the bases loaded to score two. A walk and two hit batters brought in two more. The Diamond Jaxx fought back, scoring two in the bottom of the fourth with singles from Jordan B, Cole K and David A. Aiden M made several strong fielding plays from the mound to limit the damage to 2 runs. In the top of the fifth, the Rods scored three more on a walk to Lucas G, a single by Ryan B and triple by Jeremy F to deep left. In the sixth, Cole M for the Hot Rods came in to close and struck out two when the Jaxx managed to get two men on base with the heart of the lineup at the plate. But a hard shot off the bat of Cole K to the hole in short was backhanded by Jeremy F who pivoted and threw a strike to first baseman Ryan B to get the final out. Special D'Jaxx note: Jordan B. got his first 2 hits of the year! |
|
The visiting Bees sent 8 batters to the plate to begin the game. On the only hit of the inning, the Mets fielded the ball handily and got the force out at second. Ryan E pitched the first three innings for the Bees, and gave up only two runs. The Mets came out strong, also getting on the board for two in the first. The Bees added four more in the second with a doubles by Sean H and Nick C, and a single by Nick B. In the bottom of the fourth, the Mets loaded the bases on walks, and then proceeded to get some excellent hits from Jake E, Derek Y, and Maxwell H to score 4. Eight to six, Bees. Both teams kept the scorekeeper busy in the fifth. Knowing what the Mets were capable of, the Bees were determined to add to their score in hopes of holding out for the win. Nick C, Matthew T, and Eli S came through with singles, and Dylan S with a double to help add five runs to the cushion. True to expectations, the Mets fierce competitive side came out with lead-off batter Ryan F needing one swing to send the ball flying over the fences. A combination of walks, a single by Ethan W and double by Zac M, shortened the gap in the score before the Bees called upon their reliable closer, Ben V, who, with three pitches, ended the game. Along with great offense, there were a few great defensive plays. Nick C in CF caught a high pop-up. Ben V played 1B well for several outs and Matthew T fielded a ball in CF then raced to second for the force out. For the Mets, Derek Y caught a sharp hit at first, and pitchers Brady K and Ethan W allowed no runs through the 3rd and 4th innings. |

The Muckdogs and Lookouts met on a sunny but windy Wednesday afternoon. The home Muckdogs struck first after Muckdog hurler held the Lookouts scoreless in the top of the first, thanks especially to Jalen G's great running catch in left of Jonathan K's line drive. In the bottom half, the Muckdogs got 4 on the strength of some walks and singles by Corey M and Jesse H. In the top of the 2nd the Lookouts responded with 4 of their own, thanks to some walks and then hits by Benjamin G, Elijah L, Henry K and Jacob M. Lookout starter Jonathan K threw hard and held the Muckdogs to 2 in the bottom of the 2nd, the notable play being a huge double to the left center wall by Nathan H. The Lookouts piled 4 more on in the 3rd, with Jonathan K and Benjamin G getting hits, Benjamin G notably hitting his over the fence in left center on one bounce for a ground rule double. A couple of fielder's choices ended their half of the inning, before the Muckdogs came back for 4 more in the bottom of the 3rd. Muckdog batters Corey M and Ethan F contributed with hits that inning. The 4th inning saw Muckdog Jeremy S pitch for only the 2nd time this season, striking out one and getting great defensive help from RF Corey M, who caught a screamer by Ari R to save a sure run and possibly a game-tying homer. Jeremy S gave way to Nathan H, who struck out the Lookouts' cleanup monster-batter in a dramatic duel to end the game. The Lookouts got great pitching from starter Jonathan K, Ari R and Benjamin G. The Muckdogs got strong throws from several pitchers who hadn't pitched more than a couple of innings before now but whom all pitched very well, Jesse H (2 innings), Zack A (1 Inning) and Jeremy S (2/3 of an inning). |

A great game was played in a re-match between the Bees and the Hot Rods. This was a great pitching duel for the first three innings by Jeremy F of the Hot Rods (3 innings, 5 strikeouts, 0 walks, 3 hits, 1 run) and Ryan E of the Bees (3 innings, 4 strikeouts, 2 walks/hb, 2 hits, 1 run). The Hot Rods scored a run in the first inning on a single by Ryan B, two stolen bases and an RBI ground out to short by Jeremy F that was well played by Nick C. The Bees scored a run in the second off a Matt T single and a hard hit RBI single by Eli S. The score remained 1- 1 until the top of the fourth when the Bees scored 2 off of a couple of walks and a double from Ryan E, his second hit of the game. There were a couple of nice defensive plays to hold the Bees to two runs including a catch by Jeremy F at shortstop of a screaming line drive off the bat of Nick C and a great play at third by Eli Y who managed to field a hard hit ball off the bat of Danny D that had deflected off the pitcher and then throw to first for the out. The Hot Rods scored four in the bottom of the fourth from walks and a single off the bat of Cole M. The Bees loaded the bases in the fifth but were held scoreless on a catch at second base by Talia G. The Hot Rods scored four more in the bottom of the fifth off a single by Lucas G, his first hit of the season, and several walks and hit batters. The Bees loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and scored two runs on walks, hit batters and a ground rule double that bounced over the fence by Nick C but the deficit was too steep. Josh E of the Hot Rods got his second hit of the season, his second game in a row with a hit. |

The Ironbirds and Muckdogs had an exciting re-match. The Ironsbirds came out firing in the first inning with a single from Ethan T. and Holden D., and a double by Gabriel Y. The Muckdogs returned fire as their leadoff batter, Corey M., hit a ground rule double, and Ethan F. hit shot down the third base line. However, Ethan T’s pitching was able to hold the Muckdogs to one run thru the second inning. Meanwhile, the Ironbird were able to post 7 additional runs thru the third inning, highlighted by Nicholas C’s double. The Muckdogs' Corey M. opened up a nice double in the third inning to lead their team to a 3-run rally before Michael B. was able to close out his Pinto debut with a strike out. The fourth inning brought more excitement as Prince D. and Cole H. both doubled to cap another four-run inning for the Ironbirds. The game tightened down with excellent pitching by Muckdogs pitcher Isaac H., holding the Ironbirds scoreless in the fifth and sixing innings, although the Muckdogs offense was not done. Zack A. hit a blistering line drive in the fifth that was caught by Ironbird shortstop Nicholas C. in an outstanding play, preventing a Muckdog rally in the fifth. The Muckdogs attempted to mount a comeback assault the sixth with Isaac H’s triple down the left field line. However, the Ironbirds defense combined with Gabriel Y’s close out pitching to hold the Muckdogs offense to two runs in the sixth, and give the Ironbird their second win of the season. |

In the top of the first, the Bees’ Ben V knocked Ryan E and Eli S in for two. Ryan was HBP and Eli had singled. That’s all that Lookouts’ P Jonathan K would allow for the first three innings, though, recording 7 strikeouts. Lookouts’ defense came through on a sharp line drive to 3B that was caught by Henry K, and a nice 1-3 combo for the third out in the third. Meanwhile, Nick B was on the mound for the Bees in the first and second, and recorded 4 strikeouts of his own. He also got some great support from his teammates, with a 4-3 combos from Aiden G and Ben V, and then a 4-6 from Mason C and Dylan S. Skyler R scored in the second on a single by Henry K. Eli S came out to throw for the Bees in the third and fourth, and struck out 4 batters. Bottom of 3rd, the Lookouts loaded the bases. Jonathan K hit a high fly ball to left center, for what surely would have been at least two runs, but Matthew T had the time to get under it and get the out. Score: 2-1 Bees. Bees offense came alive for 4 in the fourth with Ryan E (inside-the-park homer), Nick C (single) and Danny D (double). Matthew T got safely to first on a hit, but was run down and tagged by Benjamin G trying to get to 2B. The Lookouts loaded the bases again in the 4th, and the Bees called in Ryan E as reliever to get the last out on strikes. 6-1 Bees. Fierce pitcher Ari R faced 3 Bee batters for three Ks in the fifth. The Bees managed to score 4 runs in the sixth before Benjamin G caught a popup to SS, and beat the runner back to 2B for the unassisted double play. Bee defense: Danny D and Ben V combo’ed 4-3 in the fifth for an out and Ben V caught a pop fly at SS in the sixth. Bee P Aiden G faced 7 batters total in the fifth and sixth innings, with 4 strikeouts, for a spectacular outing. |

True to form, the Muckdogs came out swinging in the top of the first with back-to-back infield singles by Jeremy S and Griffin K. A few batters later Nathan H hit a strong ground ball past 3rd base for a double. The Mets were able to record a strikeout to end the inning with a 3-run deficit. The Mets came back, turning discipline at the plate into 4 runs in the 1st and 3 runs in the 2nd, including 4 full count walks in that span. The Mets pitching and defense shut the Muckdogs down for the next two innings including two consecutive strike outs by Met pitcher Maxwell H (aka "Gunner") to end a bases loaded rally and a 1-2-3 inning by Met Derek Y (aka "Mr. Baseball") in the 3rd. Also, Mets Amanda M ("Queen of the Hill") made a great defensive play at SS fielding a sharp ground ball and making a perfect throw to the outstretched glove of Ryan F ("Flamethrower") at 1B--a major league play! The Mets added to their lead in the bottom 3rd with back-to-back 2-RBI doubles to CF by Gunner and Jake E ("The General"). Muckdogs turned plate discipline into 2 runs in the 4th inning. Kudos to Mets pitcher Brady K (the "Silent Giant") who came in with no outs and bases loaded to retire 3 of the 5 batters he faced and end the rally. He was helped by a heads up defense play by Gunner at SS who fielded a ground ball by Muckdog Griffin K and tagged out the advancing runner for the final out of the inning. Knowing they needed some insurance runs, the Mets loaded up the bases again in the 4th but Muckdogs pitcher Ethan F put the clamp down with 3 strikeouts against some tough Mets batters and allowed only one run. Down by 7 but never quitting, the Muckdogs mounted a rally in the final inning. Jesse H ripped an RBI double and Nathan H hit a 2 RBI single. With no outs, runners on and the Muckdogs clearly looking for more, the Mets turned to Ryan F who struck out 3 of the 4 batters he faced to end the game. Final score 12-8! |

That left the score 6-4 entering the fifth. Ethan T. of the Ironbirds and Cole K. of the Diamond Jaxx then traded goose eggs over the last two innings to finish out the contest. A great baseball game. |

The Lookouts and the Hot Rods played their third and final regular season match on Saturday. The first two games were very close and exciting. This one was no different. Hot Rods scored early with 1 in the first, 3 in the second, and another 3 in the third. Meanwhile, the Lookouts were held to 1 run across those three innings with strong pitching from Jeremy F (3 inn, 6 ks, 1 bb, 1 run). The Rods scored three more to go up 10-1 in the top of the fourth but the Lookouts scored four in the bottom of the inning to pull within 5. Jonathan K pitched strong fifth and sixth innings for the Lookouts and held the Hot Rods scoreless (2 inn, 5 ks, 1 bb, 0 runs). In the bottom of the sixth, still down by 5, the Lookouts scored three and loaded the bases to pull within 2 runs. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Hot Rods' Cole M reached the 50-pitch threshold and was replaced by Gabe M who had never previously pitched in Pinto Ball. He got the final strike out for the save and win. Watch out for 7 year old Gabe next season. There were several notable plays for both squads. For the Hot Rods, Lucas G continued to hit the ball well, as did Josh E, and Josh F, who smashed the ball early in the season, ended his slump by hitting a lined shot to the fence in right. Cole M had a smash to the left field fence, Jeremy F had a hit to left field with two men on base and Ryan B made two nice defensive plays and scored two runs. For the Lookouts, Jack P. had a single, Skyler R. had a single and a double with 2 runs scored, Jonathan K. had a ground rule double smash to deep right, Ben G. went 3-3 with a double and 2 rbis, Griffin W. had a single with 2 rbis, Jacob M had a single and scored a run, Kalman W. made a nice unassisted play at third base with the bases loaded and two outs, and Ben G. made a nice tag at third on a throw from left field by Jack P. |

The schedule called for a late season Tuesday Tussle between the Hot Rods and Mets--their first meeting of the season. The visiting Hot Rods threatened immediately with a couple of runners on base but Mets P Derek Y (aka "Mr. Baseball") shut the rally down with two consecutive strikeouts. Mr. Baseball pitched a total of 3 innings of shutout, no hit ball (2 of which were 1-2-3 innings, earning him 2 yards of bubblegum in the Mets tradition). He was aided by good Mets glove work, including a nice catch of a line drive by Ryan F (aka "Flamethrower") at 1B in the 2nd inning. The Mets also started a rally in the first by loading the bases but Jeremy F. shut it down with 2 consecutive strikeouts of some tough Mets batters. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Mets scored 4 runs. The rally started with walks by Junha L ("Batman") and Brady K ("Silent Giant") that Maxwell H ("Gunner") converted into runs with a booming triple to RCF. Amanda M ("Queen of the Hill") then hit a single bringing Gunner home and Mr. Baseball brought the Queen home with a smash double to CF. Hot Rods P Aidan M had a composed outing--stamping out an attempted Mets rally in the 3rd inning (giving up no runs) and turning a sharp comebacker into a very nice put out with Cole M at 1B in the 4th inning. The Mets were able to tack on 3 more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. CJ started the rally with a walk, and that was followed by a close infield single by Gunner (kudos to Jeremy F at SS for making a great play on the ball!), the Queen's 2 RBI single and Mr. Baseball's RBI single. Aidan M recorded 2 consecutive strikeouts to end the rally. The Hot Rods threatened in the 4th and 5th innings drawing walks early in each inning but Gunner bore down in each situation to record consecutive strikeouts to get out of the inning without giving up any hits or runs. Hot Rods P Ryan B was lights out in the 5th inning, facing only 4 batters. Great Hot Rods defense also was on display in the 5th with Ryan B catching a pop-up and SS Jeremy F fielding a sharply hit ball and making a perfect throw just in time to 1B Cole M to get the runner and end the inning. Mets Flamethrower Ryan F closed out the game with some pinpoint pitching, giving up only walk and striking out 3. |

The Lookouts and Muckdogs squared off for the third and final time tonight, with the Lookouts finally getting the better of their foe. Henry K. made his first start for the Lookouts and was met with back-to-back singles by Zack A. and Jeremy S., the latter knocking in Issac H. who was on board with a lead off walk. With a man on second and no outs, Henry settled down, retiring the next three batters in order, including the always formidable Hewitt Brothers. The Lookouts answered with four runs in the bottom of the first led by Ben G.'s rbi single. Diego G., making his pitching debut for the Muckdogs, came in with two outs in the first and recorded an out on Jonathan K.'s sacrifice fly to Nathan H. in left field. The Lookouts and Muckdogs traded zeros in the second inning on strong pitching by Ari R. (6 K's) and Corey M. (5K's). In the third the Lookouts were able to squeeze one more run across the plate to take a 5-1 lead. In the fourth the Lookouts plated three more runs on a handful of walks and a fielders choice to take a commanding 8-1 lead. After retiring the lead off batter in the fourth, Ari R. yielded a double by Nathan H. and was replaced by Jonathan K. After walking the first batter Jonathan K. struck out the next two batters to keep the Muckdogs off the scoreboard. In the top of the fifth inning Jonathan K.'s single to center field, aided by some fancy base running, knocked in three runs. Four batters later Sam L.'s sharply hit ball to first base knocked in the twelfth and final run for the Lookouts. Jonathan K. pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning striking out the side to end the game. |

Showdown Saturday began with a battle for position between the Mets and Lookouts. The visiting Mets got on the board first with 4 runs fueled by 4 hits Jake E (who had a 3 for 3, 4 RBI performance!), Ryan F, Ethan W and a smash two RBI double by Eli M. The Lookouts responded with 3 hits and a run of their own driven in by Jonathan K's double. But Mets defense was on display that inning with two tagouts at the plate. The first was a ground ball fielded by Derek Y who threw it to C Maxwell H for the bang-bang tag at plate. The second was by SS Amanda M who relayed a throw from the outfield to home so quickly that the runner decided to head back to third but was chased down and tagged out by Maxwell. That play ended the rally. The Mets posted 4 more in the 2nd on RBI singles by Jake E, Derek Y and Ethan W. The Lookouts showed their fight, responding with 3 runs, including hits by Elijah L and Sam, who had a 2 RBI single. Met Amanda M kicked off the 3rd with a smash double to CF and she was brought home by a sacrifice hit by Brady K. Aidan W tried to keep the rally going with a hit of his own but Lookout P Ari R shut the Met rally down with a strikeout of the next batter. The Lookout 3rd inning rally was capped off when Jonathan K brought Ari R home. Met relief P Brady K gathered himself and struck out a Lookout to end the threat. The Mets posted 4 more in the 4th inning. Lookout Griffin W crushed a single in the 4th but Brady gave up no runs in part with support by a nice snab of a ground ball at 1B by Ryan F. Both teams' pitchers dominated the 5th - Lookout Jonathan K striking out the side and Met Maxwell H retiring 3 of the 4 batters he faced to end the game. |

Today the Bees and the I-Birds faced off in a tough battle. Bee Pitcher Aiden G came out throwing hard, facing 5 batters, striking out three, and allowing no runs. IBird Pitcher Ty C did even better in the first, taking the Bees down, 1, 2, 3. The Bees got into trouble early in the 2nd, allowing several singles and a few walks. Pitcher Nick C made a great defensive force play at the plate on a soft grounder off the bat of Sophie B, but the Ironbirds still put 4 on the board. The Bees answered in the bottom of the 2nd with Nick C (single) scoring off Nick B’s single. A series of walks, and a few more strikeouts later, Nick B. had also crossed the plate and the score was 4-2, Ironbirds. The third inning saw the Ironbirds and Bees match each other run-for-run. Ironbirds Gabriel Y, Michael B got singles, and Sophie B hit a double to contribute. Ethan T hit a double and then made it all the way around before the Bees could get control of the ball. Matthew T knocked Ryan E (base-on-balls) in on a single. Sean H forced a run home patiently, earning a base on balls, and the Mason C hit a smash grounder in the 1B-2B gap, which scored three, but only two counted. Bees summoned Ryan E to the mound to close the game, and Ryan would allow no more Ironbird scoring through the last 3 innings. Ryan was a one-man-show, striking out 8 batters, and catching the one hit ball, a pop-up to the infield. Ironbird pitcher Gabriel Y pitched the 5th and 6th, allowed only 1 run, and struck out 4. The score was 8-7, with two outs, when Gabriel Y was replaced because of his pitchcount. Sean H got a single to knock in Nick B in the fifth. Ryan E, Matthew T, Nicholas B, and Dylan S had all reached base safely, and Sean H walked up to bat with two outs, score tied. For the fourth time in this one game, Sean H notched an RBI, this time with a walk, and won the game for the home team. |

In a game that will likely be regarded as one of the most exciting defensive Pinto games ever, the Muckdogs and Hot Rods met for the 3rd and final time of the season. Both teams failed to score in 1st two innings, with Jeremy F pitching perfect strikes, and Cole M making spectacular plays at first for the Hot Rods, stopping screaming hits from Jeremy S and Zack A in the first. In the 2nd, Corey M hit a hard single to left, but the Hot Rods Ryan B made a great catch on a sinking line drive hit by Nathan H, and doubled him off as he tried to get back to first after attempting a steal on the play. Not to be outdone in the double play arena, in the bottom of the 2nd Muckdog Ethan F fielded a grounder with the bases loaded and one out, tagged the runner from 1st and threw to first to complete a double play and prevent any runs from scoring. In the 3rd, the Muckdogs finally got on the board after a hard single up the middle by Griffin K and a single by Diego G drove him in. In the 4th the Dogs struck again, scoring 3 on a 2-out rally led by Corey M's double, Nathan H's single and Ethan F's double to the fence. The Hot Rods again helped their own cause with Cole M's great plays at first, getting one unassisted and 2 other put outs at first. The Hot Rods struck back hard in the 4th with hits by Cole M, Eli Y, Talia G and a monster triple by Josh F to score 3 and tie it up. Ethan F again saved the day for the Muckdogs in the 5th when with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, he caught a line drive and cooly stepped on 2nd for a double play. In the bottom of the 5th the Hot Rods defense shone the brightest, with the bases loaded, 1 out, the meat of the Muckdogs' lineup coming and Isaac H already having scored, pitcher Cole M calmly fielded the next 2 balls hit to him and threw to home to catcher Eli Y to force out successive Muckdog runners, preventing any more runs from scoring. Proving he could do it with his arm as well as his glove, in the 6th catcher Eli Y threw to Ryan B who made a perfect tag at 2nd to throw out a Muckdog who was trying to steal. But the play of the game happened in the bottom of the 6th with 2 out and runners on 1st & 2nd, Josh F hit a monster to the outfield, but a great relay from Zack A to Ethan F at 2nd caught him trying to stretch it only moments before the 1st runner got to the plate, appropriately ending this monsterous defensive struggle with one more great defensive play, and the 7th out accounted for by Ethan F that day by either put-out or assist. Cole M closed as pitcher for the Hot Rods, who also got intermediate innings from Ryan B and Aiden M. Nathan H threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings, Ethan F threw 1/3 of an inning, Jesse H threw 1, and Corey M threw 2 scoreless innings for the win. |

The Lookouts met the Diamond Jaxx for just the second time this season on a cold, drizzly day at Cheviot. The visiting Lookouts attacked first, scoring four runs in the top of the first on singles by Ari R., Ben G., Caden A., and Griffin W., a walk to Jonathan K. and a HBP on Sam L. The Diamond Jaxx roared back with four of their own in the bottom of the inning. After Jack Be. reached on an error, Cole K. and Justin O. doubled, and David A. singled and scored on some throwing errors. The Diamond Jaxx' Justin O. held the Lookouts scoreless in the top of the second, and the Lookouts' Henry K. struck out the side in the bottom of the inning. The Diamond Jaxx' Joe H. made just his second pitching appearance in the third, holding the Lookouts to one run on a single by Ben G. and a ground out by Jonathan K. Joe H. struck out two batters and got a nice unassisted put out at first by Cole K. In the bottom of the third, the Diamond Jaxx scored four more on some errors, bases on balls, a HBP, and a double by David A. The Lookouts came right back with two in the top of the fourth. The Diamond Jaxx' Brandon O. made his Pinto pitching debut, walking a few and striking out one before giving way to Gabriel B., making just his second appearance. The Diamond Jaxx escaped more damage when third baseman Jack Br. caught a fly ball off the bat of Ben G. and then beat the runner back to the bag at third for an unassisted double play. The Lookouts held the Jaxx scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, getting some nice defensive work on a hard grounder to third by Gabriel B. Griffin W. fielded it cleanly and threw him out at first. In the top of the fifth, the Diamond Jaxx Jack Be. made his Pinto pitching debut, allowing only one run on a HBP to Eli L. and a single by Griffin W., getting some defensive help from Joe H. at SS who threw out Henry K. on a grounder up the middle. That one run tied the game at 8-8 going into the bottom of the fifth (and last) inning. Joe H., the hero of the day, led off and got his first hit of the year, a single between SS and 3B, then stole 2nd and 3rd. Jack Be. then hit a grounder to short. The throw was high and Joe H. scored the winning run. A great Pinto baseball game! |

It was another nail biter as has become accustomed when the Ironbirds and Bees match up. In a great game that included pitching, hitting and fielding duels, the Ironbirds came out on top 13-11. The visiting Ironbrids got off to a fast start when Ty C. and Ethan T got on base and got help from a key hit by Gabriel Y. Despite the Ironbirds having two players on base and scoring a run, Aidan G.’s two strikeouts on the mound sent the Bees to bat down 1-0. The Bees came right back in the bottom of the first with a lead-off triple by Ben V. and a follow-up single by Eli S. At the end of one inning, the Bees led 4-1. The Ironbirds answered again with a 4-run second inning that included a Michael B. single and Prince D. double. The Bees' pitcher Nick C. helped to close this rally down with two more strikeouts. At 5-4 going into the top of the third, the Ironbirds came on with back-to-back 4-run innings. This included hits by Ethan T. with doubles by Gabriel Y and Holden D in the third and singles by Ty C, Arrow G, Gabriel Y and Holden D, and a double by Prince D in the fourth. Headed to the bottom of the fourth, the score was 13-4 Ironbirds. The Bees got ramped up for the final innings. The Bees rally started fast with key hits by Nick C and Danny D. that led to two runs. With the Bees on a roll, the Ironbirds defense came alive when a long fly ball to the deep outfield by the Bees Dylan S was caught by the Ironbirds Gabriel Y. Strong pitching by Ty C shut the inning down with the score 13-6 Ironbirds. In the final inning, the Bees Ryan E quieted the Ironbirds bats with three strikeouts giving his team another shot at coming back. Come back they did. The Ironbirds Jacob F debuted on the mound but the Bees would not be denied. With a key hit from Nick C, the Bees scored 5 runs before the Ironbirds infield defense came through and closed the game to win 13-11. |

The Hot Rods hosted the Mets in their final regular season matchup. The Mets were coming off a 3-game winning streak including a 7-0 defeat of the Rods last week. The Mets scored two in first inning off a two-run shot over the fence by Ryan F. The Hot Rods answered back with an RBI single by Jeremy F scroring Ryan B and a two-run triple off the bat of Eli Y which scored Cole M. Met Aidan W made a nice catch in right center field to end the inning. With solid pitching from Jeremy F and some great fielding, the Hot Rods were able to hold the Mets scoreless for the 2nd and 3rd innings. The Hot Rods offensive effort combined patience at the plate with timely hitting. In the third, Talia G hit a nice fly ball that landed safely followed by walks to Josh E and Gabriel M. With the table set, the "new and improved" Josh F smashed the ball for a base-clearing inside-the-park grand slam. In the fourth, the Rods again loaded the bases with walks to Jaiden F, Josh E and Owen L. Cole M then hit a hard ground ball to second base and chased his teammates around the bases for a second Hot Rods inside-the-park slam. Hurler Aiden M threw blazing fastballs in the 4th and 5th innings. The Mets scored one on a Junha L walk followed by Jake E's single in the top of the 5th, but Aidan M. closed out the game by catching a short pop up for the third out and the save. |

Because of the Opening Day rainout, the Bees' and Mets' first game wound up being their last. Mets pitcher Ryan F came out tough in the 1st inning and then Bees hitter Nick C ripped a triple and when trying to stretch it to a HR, was called out at the plate in an unusual call of running over the catcher (instead of sliding), making for a close play at the plate. The Mets bats were alive, stringing together 5 hits (by Jake E, Amanda M, Derek Y, Ryan F and Ethan W) and a walk in the bottom of the 1st inning for 4 runs. Mets P Ryan F pitched well in the 2nd and 3rd innings, but was aided by strong defense. Mets C Maxwell H and SS Amanda M teamed up to throw out a base stealer at 2B, SS Derek Y and an outstretched 1B Eli M to take away a hit and 3B Zac M tagged out an advancing Bee runner at 3B. After giving up a couple of walks, Bees P Eli S shut the Mets down in the 2nd inning. The Mets scored 3 in the 3rd and 4 more in the 4th inning, including great hits by Jake E, Derek Y (who went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs), Ryan F (who went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs) and Ethan W (who went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs). The Bees defense caught 2 pop fly balls in the 3rd inning to record outs. The Bees scored all 8 of their runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings, fueled by great hitting by Ryan E (who went 2 for 3), Nick C (who went 3 for 3), Matt T, Aidan G, Ben V and Danny D. A defensive note was that Mets P Derek Y made a heads up play by chasing down and tagging out a runner at the plate in the 4th inning. Both teams' closers (Ryan E for the Bees and Maxwell H for the Mets) were challenged with run-scoring rallies but clamped down to record 3 consecutive strikeouts to end the inning. |
